Snow Removal Insurance Requirement: CG 2292 Snow Plow Operations Coverage Endorsement
What is the Snow Plow Operations Coverage Endorsement?
This endorsement is an essential modification to your Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy. Standard CGL policies generally exclude coverage for any damage or liability caused by snow removal activities, particularly those involving vehicles or equipment. The Snow Plow Operations Coverage endorsement removes this exclusion, allowing the policy to cover bodily injury and property damage that may occur as a result of snow plow operations.
DMG Example Snow Endorsement
Snow providers must upload a snow endorsement (example pictured below) with their insurance documentation.

Why is this Endorsement Important?
Snow removal presents unique risks that standard general liability policies do not cover. Without this endorsement:
- Providers lack coverage for snow-related incidents that could result in claims or lawsuits, leaving them personally liable for potential damages.
- Client Compliance Requirements: Our clients require Providers to carry insurance that adequately covers all aspects of snow removal, including potential damage caused by vehicles used in the operation as well as completed operations coverage. This ensures that Providers and clients are protected from potential financial and legal issues arising from snow removal activities.
Key Points to Communicate to Your Insurance Agent
- General liability policies alone typically do not cover snow removal operations. This endorsement is required to modify the policy.
- The endorsement falls specifically under the Completed Operations Endorsement within the CGL policy which means we cannot accept the snow endorsement unless we have completed operations coverage.
- Exclusions create policy gaps that we cannot accept. Specifically, if the policy excludes losses arising out of the use of automobiles, which includes equipment used for snow and ice removal services. This is where the snow endorsement comes in.
- The endorsement page itself is required; we cannot accept the declaration page with the endorsement listed.
- Emphasize the urgency to your agent, as having this endorsement is mandatory for compliance and allows you to perform snow removal work without liability concerns.
- There are other endorsements your agent may be able to offer that are equivalent to the CG 2292; a non-exhaustive list is provided below:
- BP 14 16 01 10
- CB-1416(1-10)
- J7220
